3D Embroidery test

Last night I was experimenting a little with a new embroidery technique that gives designs a 3D like look. With most of the basics down by now, I want to try some more advanced possibilities.

I'm surprised how well the first attempt came out after watching some tutorials, though the one above is not perfect. I like the effect! It gives the patch so much dimension, though it can only be used in combination with a thick satin stitch so its not suitable for particular patterns.  The secret? Puffy foam! I basically stitch ontop a kind of foam (not craft foam) to make the design 'puff' up.

Once I get a little more practice in i have big plans for this new way of embroidering
